27.08.2024 - 11:16Ukraine is introducing the principle of “Fight or Work,” which involves implementing a series of measures to bring the labor market out of the shadows.
This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
He noted that Ukraine has lost 3.5 million jobs since the conflict began. In 2022, the country lost nearly 30% of its economy. To support the Armed Forces of Ukraine (UAF), at least 10 million jobs are needed, while currently there are officially fewer than 8 million.
Shmyhal also pointed out that there are a number of professions in the economy that operate “in the shadows” and do not pay taxes, which are critically needed today.
“The principle of ‘fight or work’ is not new. The president has voiced it before. We all agree with this principle. In a state fighting for its survival, there can be no people on the sidelines. People must either fight or do everything possible to support those who are fighting,” he said.
The Prime Minister added that this includes a series of measures to eliminate the shadow economy, including encouraging Ukrainians to return from abroad to work and pay taxes in Ukraine.
