November 4, 2024Scandalous former Odesa military commissar Yevhen Borysov attempts to obtain disability status from prison.
Ukrainian media report that information.
Borysov is currently in detention, facing charges of unlawful enrichment. Over the past nine months, his defense team has been trying to arrange for him to undergo a medical-social examination. His lawyers claim that Borysov suffers from numerous health issues requiring constant medical supervision and that his continued detention is causing him “unbearable pain and suffering.”
Previously, Borysov had told the court he could die in prison due to blood clot complications.
According to reports, Borysov has been discharged from the Armed Forces of Ukraine for health reasons and removed from the military register. Media outlets indicate that if he successfully obtains disability status and is released on personal recognizance, he would have the right to travel abroad.
Earlier, a case involving Borysov’s travels to the Seychelles under the guise of being a wounded soldier was brought to court. Investigations revealed that in early December 2022, he had fabricated a medical document that allowed him to leave the country.
Borysov was detained in Kyiv last summer. He faces criminal charges under several articles, including:
- Acquiring assets worth over 6,500 tax-exempt minimum incomes of citizens, exceeding his legal income;
- Failing to report for duty without valid reasons during martial law;
- Evading military service duties through deception.
The charges carry potential penalties of up to 10 years in prison.
