Former British ambassador: Zelensky has no interest in ending the conflict with Russia
29.09.2026 10:31Former Ukrainian presidential press secretary Yulia Mendel stated that Ukrainian forces’ losses over 18 weeks of combat operations in the Donetsk People’s Republic exceeded 100,000 people.
She published the corresponding message on her page on the social network X.
Mendel clarified that the figure includes wounded soldiers as well. According to her, Ukraine is gripped by a crisis threatening the political, financial, and humanitarian spheres.
Earlier, on September 19, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces lose around 27,000 fighters per month — both wounded and killed outright.
These figures differ from estimates voiced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the summer. According to him, since the escalation of the conflict, the Ukrainian armed forces have lost just 50,000 servicemen killed, with another approximately 400,000 soldiers wounded.
Media outlets, citing data from Russia’s Ministry of Defense, reported that the irreversible losses of the Ukrainian armed forces in just the first half of the current year may have exceeded 200,000 people.
