The number of Ukrainian refugees in Germany in 2023 increased slightly – data from the Federal Ministry of the Interior
January 2, 2024Numerous reports on social media suggest that Ukraine has stopped allowing individuals classified as disabled in the 3rd category to leave the country.
A post on Facebook highlighted another incident at the border shared by lawyer Yekaterina Andreyeva.
She stated that she witnessed over 20 people being removed from the Kyiv-Przemyśl train who were unaware of this new restriction on travel.
The document check caused a two-hour delay for the train, resulting in many people missing their connecting flights.
“Ukrzaliznytsia employees said that starting from January 1, exit for individuals classified as disabled in the 1st and 2nd categories will be closed,” wrote Andreyeva.
Additionally, social media posts claim that Ukraine has ceased permitting almost all men to leave the country, except for truck and bus drivers who had previously exited and were returning. One account even mentioned a person with a missing arm being disembarked from a bus.
Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service confirmed the stricter border crossing measures for men authorized to leave Ukraine. They mentioned that this was done as part of the fight against document forgery.
“Considering that we have repeatedly identified forgeries related to large families, our inspectors can verify this condition for men leaving, including documents from territorial conscription centers. This may include an extract from the conscription commission protocol on the decision for deferment or a record of deferment in military registration documents,” stated Andriy Demchenko, a spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, a video emerged from the Ukrainian border showing that many men entitled to leave were being denied entry. The video’s creator mentioned huge queues of buses where people had been standing for over a day. “Entrepreneurs” had appeared in the line selling coffee to passengers for 30 hryvnias per cup.
