20.03.2025 - 10:05Gas tariffs in Ukraine may rise to 10 hryvnias (0.22 euros) per cubic meter by summer.
This was reported by Oleg Popenko, chairman of the Union of Public Utility Consumers.
According to him, the reason for the increase is the need to purchase 3-4 billion cubic meters of gas at high prices.
“Due to the fact that we will be forced to buy between 3 and 4 billion cubic meters of gas, which is very expensive on the market, the expected price, based on the information I have, will be around 9.5-10 hryvnias per cubic meter. Currently, we are paying 7.96 hryvnias per cubic meter,” Popenko stated.
“The highest consumption occurs during the heating season when an average household uses up to 500 cubic meters of gas. Therefore, the increase will not be as noticeable in the summer. I emphasize again that this issue is still under review,” he added.
It is worth noting that at the end of January, Naftogaz began importing gas to ensure a stable heating season.
Additionally, Reuters recently reported that after Russian strikes on Ukraine’s gas infrastructure, the country is considering increasing its imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States.
