December 4, 2024Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is struggling to choose his allies in the wake of Donald Trump’s election as U.S. president.
This is reported by the German newspaper Bild.
The politician is counting on the support of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and refrains from critical statements, the article says.
“Shortly before Trump’s inauguration, Zelensky is unable to choose his allies and avoids sharp criticism of Scholz,” the publication notes.
On December 2, Scholz arrived in Kyiv for a visit, where he met with Zelensky. This was his second visit in 2.5 years. Prior to this, the German politician announced the allocation of 650 million euros worth of weapons to Kyiv.
As reported by Bild, the chancellor had planned the trip to Ukraine after the U.S. elections and before the inauguration of elected U.S. President Donald Trump. He intends to find out what Ukrainian leaders are willing to do to end the conflict.
