The outcome of next week’s U.S. elections could mean that Ukraine “may be forced to accept peace on unfavorable terms or face the prospect of continuing the fight against Russia alone,” according to two sources close to the Ukrainian President’s Office.
“This sentiment is starting to spread more widely in Ukraine,” the article notes. It also references a survey indicating that more than two-thirds of Ukrainians support starting negotiations.
Meanwhile, Western officials report “no signs that Russia is interested in negotiating an end to the war.” Russian political analyst Sergey Markov, close to the Kremlin, told *Bloomberg* that Russia could fully control eastern Ukraine by next summer if the current pace of advancement continues. He added that “some in Moscow hope that Putin will be ready to begin peace negotiations once Russian forces reach the administrative borders of Donetsk region.”
Recently, Financial Times reported that Ukrainian society is exhausted, with even frontline soldiers expressing a desire for negotiations with Russia.
