If Trump cooperates with Putin, NATO and Western collective security face a grim future – Bloomberg

If elected President Donald Trump follows through on his promise to collaborate with Vladimir Putin, the future of NATO and Western collective security will be bleak.

This information reported according to Bloomberg columnist Max Hastings.

“Europe is preparing for a new life, more distant from the U.S. than ever since … 1941. The overall picture is clear: if President-elect Donald Trump keeps his promise to work with Vladimir Putin to resolve the Ukraine issue, the future of NATO and Western collective security will be grim,” Hastings writes.

He emphasizes that the days when Europeans could rely on the U.S. as their shield are over.

“As for European support for Ukraine, I have written many times that without the U.S., President Volodymyr Zelensky’s cause would be doomed. And now that is the case. Even if military aid to Kyiv is not immediately cut off, the Ukrainian will to resist the Russians wanes as Western resolve to arm them melts away. Trump’s victory almost certainly means their defeat,” he argues.

Hastings believes that European governments must continue to do everything possible to maintain close ties with the U.S. and convince the new Trump administration that continued leadership in NATO aligns fully with American interests.

It is worth recalling that French President Emmanuel Macron stated that after Trump’s election, Europe must change and can no longer remain “herbivorous.”
