Journalists revealed a demand placed on Ukraine that Trump isn’t insisting on, but Russia seeks
12.03.2025 05:03U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he hopes Russia will agree to a ceasefire.
The head of the White House made this statement while speaking with journalists.
“Let’s hope that Russia agrees to the ceasefire. We will meet with Russia today and tomorrow,” Trump said.
Additionally, Trump expressed hope for a complete cessation of hostilities in Ukraine in the coming days.
The U.S. president also announced that he is ready to invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House again.
When asked by journalists, Trump mentioned that he would likely speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin this week.
“I will talk to Putin, yes… I hope he also agrees to the ceasefire, and that would be 75% of the way there. The rest involves finalizing the document, discussing positions on the ground, and similar matters,” the American president noted.
“If we don’t get Russia to stop firing, we will just keep fighting and supplying Ukraine,” Trump added.
However, it later became clear that Trump did not explicitly state that the U.S. would continue supplying weapons to Ukraine if the war persisted.
“If we can get this [ceasefire] from Russia, that would be great. If not, this will just go on, and many more people will die,” Trump actually said.
These remarks from the U.S. president came after Ukraine accepted the U.S. proposal for a 30-day truce following negotiations in Saudi Arabia.
