13.02.2026 10:03Kyiv police have detained a 29-year-old man who detonated a grenade in an apartment. As a result, one person was killed and two were injured.
This was reported on Facebook by the press service of the Kyiv police.
The incident occurred today at around 2:00 a.m. in the Obolonskyi district of the capital.
According to a preliminary investigation, a serviceman who had left his unit without authorization came to visit a friend. A group of seven people gathered in the apartment and began drinking alcohol. During the gathering, a conflict suddenly broke out, and in the middle of it the serviceman detonated an F-1 grenade in the kitchen. The 45-year-old owner of the apartment died at the scene, and another guest—a 36-year-old local resident—was hospitalized with injuries.
Patrol officers and detectives detained the suspect. He himself also sustained shrapnel wounds to his leg and is under the supervision of doctors and law enforcement.
Police opened criminal proceedings under Paragraph 5, Part 2, Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (premeditated murder committed in a manner dangerous to the lives of many people). The detainee faces imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years or life imprisonment.
Due to the large amount of weapons in circulation, such incidents have long been not uncommon in Ukraine. For example, in December, in a high-rise building in Odesa, a serviceman who had left his unit without authorization detonated three grenades at once.
