December 20, 2023A priest blessed the opening of an American fast-food chain McDonald’s restaurant in Lviv.
Ukrainian media reported, without specifying which church the clergyman belonged to.
“In Lviv, the opening of the new McDonald’s took place with a blessing,” the media wrote, publishing a photograph of the religious ceremony.
“The denomination of the church to which the priest belongs conducting the blessing is not disclosed,” the publication added.
Since 2022, Ukrainian authorities have been leading the most extensive wave of persecution in the country’s recent history against the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Authorities have imposed state sanctions on clergy, organized searches in temples, arrested clergy members, initiated criminal cases, banned the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in various regions of the country, seized monasteries and temples, attempted to take away the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra from the canonical Church, and sought to legislatively prohibit the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
