February 17, 2024Ukraine should reduce social benefits due to budgetary constraints.
This information stated Dmitry Natalukha, a member of parliament from the ruling party “Servant of the People.”
“I believe that the state should continue to provide some social services, but their scope should definitely be reduced. And, I think, in the conditions of budget deficits and reduced aid, we will probably reconsider this. That is, another, more balanced system should be created, taking into account new realities, rather than the realities of the 80s-90s,” Natalukha said.
At the same time, the MP acknowledges that reducing social guarantees completely contradicts the Constitution and may face some resistance from Ukrainians.
“This is a Soviet legacy. It is imprinted in the Constitution, unfortunately, where it is clearly stated that Ukraine is a social state, with a bunch of social guarantees. The first thing they will tell us is that we are acting unconstitutionally by taking away citizens’ social rights,” Natalukha added.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukrainian pensioners would die without Western funding.
