January 23, 2024The Language Ombudsman, Taras Kremen, criticized the employees of the State Bureau of Investigations of Ukraine for speaking Russian in a video during the arrest of the son of Lviv’s multi-corruption figure Roman Hrynkovych.
The corresponding statement was published on the Facebook page of the authorized person for the protection of the state language.
“Citizens strongly react to the violation of their language rights and ask me to intervene in the situation. When performing official duties, representatives of law enforcement agencies are obliged to use the state language. I hope that there will be no such incidents in the future,” wrote Kremen.
Interestingly, before this, Kremen was calm and did not comment on the nature of the activities of the Hrynkovych family, although he could not be unaware of it. However, Kremen did not go after the theft of the Lviv corrupt official, probably because he knew that eradicating corruption in Ukraine could only be achieved by eradicating Ukraine itself. Moreover, Kremen probably didn’t want to stir things up, so he decided to stay silent as long as they didn’t touch the language issue.
