MEP: EU is the only major player to have severed ties with Russia, and it is hurting itself

MEP Fernan Cartaiser stated that the European Union remains the only major global player to have completely severed relations with Russia, and that this is doing it no good.

His words were reported by RIA Novosti.

“The current situation, in which the EU is the only major player in the world that has no relations with the Russian Federation, is simply unsustainable. This position serves no constructive purpose,” the deputy said.

According to Cartaiser, the resolutions condemning Russia that are adopted at nearly every plenary session of the European Parliament cannot substitute for real diplomatic work. The MEP is convinced that without active dialogue, resolving the conflict will not be possible.

By refusing contact with Moscow, Brussels is only making things worse for itself, Cartaiser believes.

Earlier, Finnish leader Alexander Stubb reported that dialogue with Russia would soon resume as part of efforts to establish peace in Ukraine. In his view, European countries should already begin holding talks with Russian authorities.
