November 21, 2023An audit by the Ministry of Defense revealed violations amounting to nearly 40 million hryvnias in one of the military units in the Chernihiv region, as reported by the department.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against, among others, the commander of the military unit. The most significant of the four violations was the unjustified overpricing of generators purchased in 2022, resulting in a loss of 37.1 million hryvnias. Officials at the military unit entered into additional agreements with suppliers, significantly altering the contract terms. Consequently, they procured 163 generators less than the established requirement.
During the period from October 2022 to April 2023, when the generators were critically needed by the military, the majority of them were not delivered to the military units but remained in warehouses. Less than 15% of the purchased generators were actually issued. Military personnel attempted to obstruct auditors from conducting their inspection.
