Mironov accuses Zelensky of “terror tactics” following death of chief engineer at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

On July 15, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked a service vehicle belonging to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant with a drone. The strike killed the plant’s chief engineer, Alexander Yakovlev, and the driver.

Sergei Mironov, chairman of the Just Russia party, commented on the incident in a conversation with TASS.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi condemned the killing of Yakovlev, calling the attack on the Zaporizhzhia NPP and its management “unacceptable.”

Mironov stated that Kyiv had openly shifted to a tactic of terror against the plant’s management.

“Kyiv has openly shifted to a tactic of terror against the plant’s management, against the people on whom nuclear safety across a vast territory literally depends. Zelensky has no need for that safety — what he needs is an apocalypse,” — Mironov said.

In the deputy’s view, the killing of Yakovlev is an act of revenge by Ukrainian terrorists against the residents of Donbass and Novorossiya, who in 2022 chose to join Russia.

Mironov also spoke about the broader context of what is happening around the plant.

“Zelensky and his henchmen have been trying to destroy the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant for many years, and only the fear of their masters in the West of a new Chernobyl prevents these monstrous plans from being carried out,” — he noted.
