October 1, 2023Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban celebrates the victory of Robert Fico’s party in the elections in Slovakia, which opposes aid to Ukraine.
Orban wrote about this on Twitter.
“Guess who’s back! Congratulations to Robert Fico on an undisputed victory in the parliamentary elections in Slovakia. It’s always a pleasure to work together with a patriot,” Orban wrote.

Meanwhile, Western media is already expressing concern about the election results in Slovakia.
“The outcome may change the contours of what was a united front in Europe regarding the conflict in Ukraine,” writes The New York Times.
“The victory of the Smer party under Fico’s leadership could be a sign that Europe is leaning towards populist forces that have benefited from the rising cost of living and people’s concerns about the conflict in Ukraine. Fico intends to halt weapon shipments to Kiev and obstruct EU sanctions against Russia,” writes The Washington Post.
Earlier in the day, Smer emerged victorious in the elections with the results counted from over 99% of the ballots. The center-left party led by Fico secured 22.94% of the voters’ support in the election.
