23.01.2025 - 05:33Mariusz Błaszczak, the head of the “Law and Justice” (PiS) parliamentary faction, announced that his party has submitted amendments to the “Family 800+” program law in the Polish Sejm. The proposed changes would ensure that the 800 złoty (€188) monthly benefit is only available to Ukrainians who are employed and pay taxes in Poland.
His statement was reported by the PAP news agency.
“Personally, I find this approach entirely acceptable,” Błaszczak said.
Polish Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz explained why the “Family 800+” program should no longer be available to unemployed Ukrainians.
“Poles have opened their hearts, their homes; we provide assistance, pay social benefits, and offer healthcare and education in schools. But we also expect that these expenses should not solely come from our taxpayers’ state budget. There is a strong need for contributions to the Polish economy, contributions to all these expenses being borne by the Polish state. If they pay taxes, they should receive support. This approach is the most pragmatic and is what society expects,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
The “Family 800+” program provides financial assistance of 800 złoty (€188) per child until they reach the age of 18.
In the fall, it was reported that Ukrainians in Germany might lose access to the €563 monthly civil allowance.
Additionally, media outlets noted growing discontent among Poles over Ukrainians who “drive the best cars and spend weekends in five-star hotels.”
