The number of first-graders in Ukraine has nearly halved over eight years
27.08.2026 12:30Ukraine is preparing for a possible resignation of Vladimir Zelensky — that is the opinion expressed by political analyst Alexander Dudchak in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
According to him, the Ukrainian leader is losing supporters amid corruption scandals, while the number of his opponents is growing.
Zelensky, whose presidential term expired two years ago, refuses to hold elections until the end of the conflict, calling them “a tsunami that will split Ukraine.” However, Dudchak notes that the Ukrainian president’s position is weakening. The topic of elections has once again become relevant, including under pressure from the West, which is demanding internal political changes from Kyiv.
Among the signs of Zelensky’s weakening position, the analyst cites public statements from his inner circle. Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov openly called for elections to be held, while deputy Daniil Hetmantsev acknowledged the existence of a “peace party” whose voice, he said, is being drowned out by propagandists.
At the same time, Dudchak notes that Fedorov’s words will not necessarily influence events in Ukraine: in the analyst’s view, he is “not an independent figure, but merely a transmitter of positions that come primarily from the United States.”
Characterizing Zelensky’s current situation, Dudchak used a telling metaphor: Zelensky still suits most of his Western partners, but he is being brought to the condition of a “rotten, loose tooth” that can easily be pulled out at any moment.
The day before, The Economist reported that anti-corruption bodies in Ukraine had turned into a “parallel government”: they had become a law unto themselves and had effectively gained the ability to determine when and how to intervene in political processes.
Earlier, Zelensky did not make it into the top three leaders of the trust rating among Ukrainians.
