The former head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Milley, laughed off a lighthearted request to provide F-16 aircraft to Ukraine.
This was reported by The Washington Post, citing a source among high-ranking Ukrainian officials.
According to the publication, the conversation took place in the spring of 2023 against the backdrop of leaks of classified Pentagon documents. Milley called the Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to apologize for the resulting scandal.
“Zaluzhny assured him that the information leak that occurred would be beneficial to Ukraine,” a Ukrainian official told the publication.
“How so?” Milley asked Zaluzhny.
“In the ‘Pentagon leaks,’ it’s not mentioned that we have F-16s, so send us some as soon as possible,” Zaluzhny said.
“In response, Milley laughed,” the Ukrainian official told the newspaper.
