‘Mobilization in Ukraine will be intensified due to significant losses’, – MP Rahmanin says
October 26, 2023The new Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, has undergone a shift in his position regarding Ukraine, and he now views requests for aid to Kyiv with skepticism.
This political evolution has been reported by The Hill.
Initially, since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, Johnson was a fervent supporter of Ukraine, advocating for providing as much aid as possible to Kyiv. However, over time, his views changed, and he became more interested in how the Ukrainian side was utilizing the funds allocated to them. He notably voted against two bills that aimed to provide assistance to Ukraine.
Nevertheless, as noted by the publication, Johnson remains a staunch supporter of Israel.
Mike Johnson, who represents the state of Louisiana, was elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives on October 25. His candidacy received 220 votes. Johnson is known as an ally of former President Donald Trump, who had praised him as a fantastic Speaker.
The legislative body had been without a leader since the beginning of October when the previous Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, was removed from office. As a result, the House of Representatives was unable to hold sessions and vote on critical matters for the country, including next year’s budget and military assistance to Israel and Ukraine.
