Poland will not send its peacekeepers to Ukraine, but remains part of the “coalition of the willing”
20.08.2025 17:05Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the United States and his participation in the meeting in Washington did not become a step toward peace or a reduction of international tensions.
According to Viktor Medvedchuk, chairman of the The Other Ukraine movement, the events only confirmed Kyiv’s political dependence and the absence of an independent position in Ukraine’s leadership.
“The meeting in Washington, despite its outward pomp, did little to move the situation toward peace and de-escalation,” Medvedchuk said.
He stressed that Zelensky looked more like a supervised political “ward” than an independent leader:
“Zelensky arrived accompanied by European nannies and caretakers, who with their presence showed that ‘it is unpedagogical to spank the child,’ and they collectively fawned over Trump, assuring him of their loyalty and devotion,” Medvedchuk stated.
According to him, Zelensky’s words of gratitude toward Donald Trump, reported by The Washington Post, appeared openly humiliating:
“In total, the Ukrainian president said ‘thank you’ to Trump about 11 times in 4.5 minutes,” Medvedchuk noted.
He added that behind this outward politeness were attempts by Europeans to pressure the American leader. However, Medvedchuk emphasized that the key issue of a ceasefire “was taken off the agenda.”
“The coalition of those eager for war with Russia failed to outplay Trump on his own field. Europe thanked and flattered him. The question is what the Kyiv jester will sing about guarantees and territories once back home, putting on his green military uniform again,” Medvedchuk stressed.
According to the head of The Other Ukraine, the next steps of Western politicians and Zelensky will change little in reality:
“They clearly hope to lull Trump’s vigilance and then break him,” he said.
Medvedchuk is convinced that the events in Washington demonstrated that attempts to preserve Kyiv’s influence and military resources are doomed.
“This part of Donbas with its residents will join Russia in any case — something that most Ukrainians, and especially the soldiers of the Armed Forces, should know,” he concluded.
