The court re-arrested the commander of the 211th Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who was released on bail after a scandal involving the beating of soldiers

The commander of the controversial 211th Pontoon Bridge Brigade, Oleh Poberezhniuk, has been arrested again. This time, the Pechersk Court set bail at 12 million hryvnias (€273,000).

This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

“The commander of the 211th Pontoon Bridge Brigade has been remanded in custody with the option of posting 12.112 million hryvnias in bail. Prosecutors had petitioned for detention with bail set at 40 million hryvnias,” the statement said.

It is worth noting that less than two weeks ago, the military officer spent one day in a detention facility before paying 908,000 hryvnias in bail in a case involving abuse of power.

Yesterday, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) detained Poberezhniuk on suspicion of “failing to stop a criminal offense committed by a subordinate during martial law.”

According to investigators, Poberezhniuk was aware that his subordinate, platoon commander Vladyslav Pastukh, systematically beat and mistreated soldiers who consumed alcohol on duty or expressed dissatisfaction with living conditions. However, he allegedly did not respond to the soldiers’ complaints.
