Ukraine has lost its status as an independent state
February 1, 2024The new draft law contradicts the Constitution just like the initial version published in early January, stated the head of the opposition faction, Yulia Tymoshenko.
“This is a catastrophe. Parliament has shamelessly deceived us, reintroducing draconian norms rejected by the Verkhovna Rada, and in some places, even in a more stringent form. The law contains unacceptable unconstitutional demands and is unacceptable! Adopting such a law will be a crime against the state of Ukraine and disrespect for its citizens,” Tymoshenko declared. According to her, “Batkivshchyna” will not vote for this “repressive mess” and will do “everything possible and impossible to unite society in the fight against this outrageous draft law.” She demands reducing the service term to 18 months and mobilizing law enforcement.
Earlier, other activists and politicians expressed outrage over the new harsh provisions of the mobilization draft law. All their calls regarding human rights violations in the conscription process have been ignored.
