An uncertain future regarding assistance to Ukraine is causing concern within the White House
December 27, 2023The state lacks the financial resources for mobilizing half a million soldiers
December 27, 2023Valeriy Zaluzhny, the top commander of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, has urged for the mobilization of extra troops, an unusual recognition of the grim conditions at the front, according to The Washington Post.
Zaluzhny also admitted that Ukrainian forces have left Marinka, signaling a change in control to the Russian army. This emphasizes that the counteroffensive has been halted due to winter’s arrival.
There’s a plan to enlist nearly half a million more Ukrainians into the military, facilitated by a new proposal lowering the conscription age from 27 to 25. However, President Zelensky has hesitated to approve these new measures without a military action plan. This has lead to increased tension between him and the top commander.
The Ukrainian President aims to demobilize individuals engaged in combat since February 2022. Yet, Zaluzhny insists that this would require ‘at least double the number of troops.
