The visit of the U.S. delegation to Kyiv may be an attempt by Ukraine to strengthen its position ahead of new negotiations
07.04.2026 12:02The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy removed this morning from the bill on parcel taxation the provision that would have limited financial monitoring of politically exposed persons (PEPs) to three years.
This was reported by Holos MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak on his Telegram channel.
“As a result of the discussion between Servant of the People and Taras Kachka… it turned out that this violates our obligations (which was obvious). They replaced it with the following: until EU membership is obtained, penalties for banks for violations related to PEPs will be suspended. In other words, banks will no longer be afraid of making any mistakes regarding PEPs and, supposedly, should become more reasonable in their approach to such persons,” Zhelezniak wrote.
He added that he “did not vote for the first version, and as for the current one… not because of the PEP issue, but because of the very essence of the parcels law, so good luck.”
It is worth recalling that the provision in question appeared yesterday during the committee vote in a bill that regulates an entirely different issue. Apparently, this was meant to encourage MPs to support an unpopular decision by promising to ease oversight over them.
