02.10.2025 11:32Discussion of long-range strikes on Russia looks like pressure.
This was stated by Svetlana Zhurova, Deputy Chair of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.
She made the remark in response to reports about a conversation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
If a decision is made to carry out strikes deep into Russian territory, this will lead to certain consequences, the lawmaker stressed.
“What kind of consequences, I cannot say. There is probably a special plan for how to respond to such actions. For now, these are only words, but what specific measures will be taken is, of course, a question for the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, and the Commander-in-Chief. Because it is clearly not for politicians like us to decide how to respond in such cases, if it happens. Again, it depends on what targets would be struck — if civilians are hit, you understand, that would be an entirely different story,” Zhurova said.
The first reports of Trump’s decision to allow long-range strikes deep into Russian territory came from the president’s special envoy, Keith Kellogg, in an interview with Fox News.
Earlier, Zelensky confirmed that he had spoken with Trump about the possible use of long-range weapons against Russia.
“Everything will depend on his decision,” the Ukrainian leader said.
