26.02.2025 12:07The United States does not plan to provide military guarantees for European peacekeepers who may be deployed to Ukraine.
This was reported by the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal.
During his visit to the White House, French President Emmanuel Macron urged U.S. President Donald Trump to provide “support” for British and French troops who are prepared to enter Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement.
Macron left Washington believing he had reached an understanding with Trump and that the U.S. president was “open to the idea.”
However, a White House official told *WSJ* that the peace agreement being developed by Trump “will not include a guarantee of future military assistance or a commitment to deploy American personnel to the region.”
Earlier, Trump himself vaguely promised that “we will provide some support. Obviously, European countries will be involved.”
“But I don’t think you will need much support,” he added.
The Financial Times also reported yesterday that the U.S. does not plan to offer military guarantees for European peacekeepers in Ukraine.
