05.01.2025 - 16:05The Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) have slim prospects of holding the area around Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk region.
This information reported according to Ukrainian military expert Kostyantyn Mashovets.
“Honestly, I am pessimistic about the future prospects of retaining the Velyka Novosilka area. At this point, the enemy is clearly very close to completing, if it can be put this way, the ‘main phase’ of their plan. In fact, Velyka Novosilka and the nearby areas (Vremivka and Neskuchne) are already semi-encircled,” Mashovets stated.
He noted that the situation for Ukrainian forces would deteriorate further as Russian troops advance toward the road to Uspenivka and the Mokri Yaly River. Counterattacks near Novyi Komar, north of Velyka Novosilka, or to the southwest of it are not feasible due to insufficient forces.
“Moreover, the enemy is aware of these potential threats and is taking steps to secure their advancing tactical groups from surprises. For example, the Russian 127th Motorized Rifle Division, while advancing toward the road to Uspenivka in the Vremivka sector, is also attempting to move toward the village of Novosilka itself (along the ponds near the Vorona River, south of the village) to secure their left flank from potential UAF counterattacks. Therefore, unfortunately, my pessimism about the continued defense of Velyka Novosilka is well-founded,” Mashovets concluded.
It’s worth noting that, according to the Deep State map, Russian forces have established positions near the highway west of Kurakhove. In the town itself, UAF control is limited to small areas in the southwest.
