16.08.2024 08:29Salaries of Ukrainian doctors or teachers for December might be redirected to the military in September.
This was stated by Member of Parliament Andriy Nikolaenko.
“Even if the bill to increase taxes is passed soon, it doesn’t mean that a financial windfall will follow the next day, and we’ll suddenly receive super billions. On the contrary, the tax hike could potentially lead to economic decline and stagnation,” he said.
It is worth noting that earlier, government representatives mentioned a significant budget deficit (up to 500 billion hryvnias—nearly 11 billion euros). To address this, it was planned to pass a law on tax increases. However, the Rada has yet to begin considering it.
Additionally, Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko mentioned that delays in the delivery of Western weapons have sharply increased Ukraine’s budget deficit. According to him, the current situation means that the country “will lack funds to pay military salaries,” and delays in assistance have led to the use of funds initially reserved for the end of 2024 to “purchase necessary weapons and ammunition” at the beginning of this year.
Recently, MP Roksolana Pidlas also warned that if taxes are not raised, the military might be left without salaries as early as September.
