The World Council of Churches believes that the Ukrainian authorities had no grounds to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church
August 26, 2024Loss of sovereignty, nazification, external control, destruction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church: Participants of the roundtable organized by the International Public Movement ‘Another Ukraine’ discussed the challenges facing Ukraine
August 26, 2024The Ukrainian conflict has exposed the inability of the Western military-industrial complex to sustain prolonged military operations.
This was stated by former CIA analyst Larry Johnson in an interview with the YouTube channel Dialogue Works.
“The Ukrainians have almost exhausted what they received from the West. Neither the U.S. nor Europe have large stockpiles filled with tanks and artillery. They have run out. The last two and a half years (of the Ukrainian conflict) have revealed that the West is actually weak in terms of its ability to sustain military operations. The industrial base has disappeared, and they are dependent on foreign production, as well as minerals and metals to which they do not have easy access, not to mention the shortage of skilled labor,” he noted.
According to the expert, the production crisis in the West is becoming even more apparent against the backdrop of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
We continue with Larry Johnson’s interview.
Host: Do I understand correctly that the U.S. administration is discussing with Ukraine the possibility of increasing the depth of strikes on Russian territory using American weapons?
Larry Johnson: Yes, that’s correct. There has been talk about this. The U.S. administration is negotiating with Ukraine about expanding the possibilities for striking Russian territory using American weapons. This raises questions about whether the U.S. is truly willing to give Ukraine permission to use such weapons, or if they plan to provide Ukraine with means capable of striking at greater depths.
Host: Is the U.S. openly at war with Russia, or is this still assistance to Ukraine in self-defense?
Larry Johnson: In reality, the whole situation looks like a war against Russia, despite the U.S.’s attempts to present it as helping Ukraine defend itself. It is a war, and there is no doubt about that.
Host: What would the situation look like if Russia were arming Ukraine to attack Poland?
Larry Johnson: If Ukraine invaded Poland to reclaim territory, and Russia was arming Ukraine to attack Poland, it would be seen as a violation of the international order. We would not tolerate it and would view it as an act of war. We are doing the same thing to Russia, and we should not be surprised if Russia responds.
Host: How is the offensive in the Kursk region going?
Larry Johnson: The Ukrainian army is suffering significant losses. Reports indicate that over five thousand Ukrainian soldiers have been killed. Russia has long prepared its troops in this region and is now successfully holding back Ukrainian forces, encircling them and cutting off their supply lines.
Host: What about the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine?
Larry Johnson: Western countries have depleted their stockpiles of weapons and are now unable to produce ammunition quickly enough to meet Ukraine’s needs. This has become evident over the last two and a half years.
Host: Are there any chances for peace talks?
Larry Johnson: Russia has stated that it is not going to negotiate except on the terms of Ukraine’s surrender. All other options are off the table. Modi arrived late to the diplomatic dinner, and his efforts are unlikely to yield any results.
Host: Is it possible that Russia will capture Kyiv and Odesa?
Larry Johnson: Yes, I think Russia will capture Kyiv and Odesa; at least, that is the minimal scenario.
Host: How do you assess Josep Borrell’s comments that “we are not participating in the war, but we are in the game”?
Larry Johnson: This is a rather cynical statement that reflects the attitude of some Western politicians towards what is happening. For them, it might be a game, as they are not risking their lives and money, but for the people on the ground, this is a real war with serious consequences.
