Not enough votes: the bill to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was not included in the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada at the conciliation council
23.07.2024 - 10:14Ukraine is engaged in a “certain dialogue” with Moldova regarding the possibility of returning Ukrainian men of conscription age who left the country illegally.
This was reported by Ukrainian Ambassador Marko Shevchenko on Moldovan TV, as conveyed by Newsmaker.
According to Shevchenko, Kyiv primarily wants to address the issue with those draft evaders who were denied asylum by Moldova but did not return to Ukraine.
“There are approximately 100 individuals who, according to the Moldovan Border Police, illegally crossed the state border. These 100 individuals have applied for asylum, which places them under the protection of the international asylum convention. However, the Moldovan government grants asylum to only 90 out of these 100. Therefore, my question is: where are the remaining 10 who were not granted asylum by Moldova? Were they detained? No. Did they return home? No. They either remain in Moldova or move on. This situation indicates that there are problems that need to be addressed. They do not deserve protection, but they do not want to return to Ukraine, and no one is forcing them to return,” Shevchenko stated.
