September 23, 2023Ukraine is not a democratic country but rather a “corrupt regime,” and therefore, the United States should not provide assistance to Kyiv.
This statement was made by American Senator Rand Paul in an interview with Fox Business.
He explained his promise not to support bills related to financing the U.S. government if they include provisions for allocating funds to Ukraine.
Rand Paul pointed out that Ukraine bans political parties and detains clergy, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky refuses to hold elections due to ongoing hostilities. Nevertheless, Washington not only provides military support to Kiev but also financially supports the Ukrainian government, including pension payments to Ukrainian civil servants.
Furthermore, the senator added that his primary reason for strongly opposing assistance to Ukraine is that the United States simply cannot afford it, and further increasing the national debt will exacerbate inflation.
