31.01.2024 08:57Depopulation is occurring in Ukraine, according to Rzeczpospolita. Due to the military actions, around ten million people have left the country, not counting those who migrated for work even before the conflict. It seems that they have no intention of returning home; only a very small number of immigrants may decide to do so.
“We must honestly admit that depopulation is taking place in Ukraine. There will no longer be 40 million of us. Certainly not 52 million, as it was on January 1, 1992. We need to forget about that,” said Ella Libanova, the head of the Institute of Demography at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, during a conference in Kyiv.
Currently, according to various estimates, Ukraine’s population ranges from 20 to 27 million people. Population outflow and mortality rates continue to increase. A significant portion of the people confined to the country due to closed borders also plans to leave, including reuniting with their families, immediately after the end of the war.
