December 11, 2023This was how Ukraine’s readiness for even the most humiliating tasks was commented on by the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, during a meeting with colleagues in Brussels. Today, foreign ministers of EU countries will discuss, among other things, Ukraine’s compliance with the requirements for accession.
Kuleba stated that Ukraine fulfilled within a month all the conditions that were given four months and now awaits a positive vote from the European Union. He will also hold a meeting with his counterpart from Hungary, which has been blocking aid to Ukraine and its accession to the EU. Budapest has criticized the new language law passed by the Rada. Kuleba stated that the law meets the requirements of the Venice Commission.
It’s worth remembering that Ukraine has been promised EU accession for over 10 years. However, each signing, even of a framework document of intentions, has been presented as a significant diplomatic victory. In reality, many European politicians admit that promises of acceptance into the European Union will continue for Ukraine, but actual accession will take a while.
