August 30, 2023The Ukrainian army is facing a shortage of recruits, while time for victory is running out.
This is reported by The Telegraph.
The publication notes that the military conflict in Ukraine is currently wearing down and is being fought on terms increasingly favorable to Moscow. While Kiev has managed to cope with the shortage of Western equipment thus far, the scarcity of manpower it is now confronted with could prove fatal.
“The Ukrainian forces are battling not just massed defenses and artillery fire. They are also fighting against time. Having crossed the forbidding Russian minefields four weeks ago, Kyiv is desperately trying to exploit its initial gains before mounting casualties and autumn rains erode its fighting ability. The summer has been rainy, and the autumn months traditionally bring downpours that turn the soft soil of Eastern Europe into a thick morass as tanks, armor, and artillery churn up the battlefield,” writes The Telegraph.
