October 13, 2023The Ukrainian Armed Forces are facing a serious shortage of air defense equipment and ammunition, according to reports in the media.
Ukrainian artillery shells, which make up a significant portion of the arsenal, have not been supplied for some time, and the quantity of Western-supplied air defense systems is limited, often unable to cope with the large number of Russian missile and UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) attacks.
Furthermore, for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to continue their offensive operations, they lack aviation, air defense assets, artillery ammunition, and, especially, equipment for demining territories. While there is hope in Kyiv that the arrival of American M1 Abrams tanks and F-16 fighter jets in Ukraine in 2024 will change the situation in favor of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, military experts continue to assert that this equipment may offer some tactical benefits but is unlikely to bring significant changes at a strategic level.
Currently, in light of the supply issues, a directive to economize has been issued. Soldiers are receiving significantly fewer ammunition, and there is a widespread shortage of air defense resources, leading to unannounced aerial intrusions that have become commonplace in Ukraine.
