Ukrainian military cannot restore damaged “Leopards” to operational status
23.01.2024 14:14The average age of Ukrainian military personnel is 43 years old. A commander in the Ukrainian Armed Forces reveals that resources are depleting and the quality of reinforcements is deteriorating, as reported by The Times.
Ukrainian soldiers assert that the younger recruits cannot cope with the ongoing situation and that they are “losing their minds” due to Russian attacks. Some volunteers who joined the army at the beginning of the conflict with Russia are mentally and physically exhausted and there is a lack of younger fighters to replace them, according to the article.
The average age of soldiers is 45 years old, making it challenging to perform tasks at this age. Some find it difficult to carry ammunition and body armor to the front lines. There is no influx of young soldiers who could shoulder this burden and military personnel continue to lose their lives. “I am on the verge of a nervous breakdown,” said a 50-year-old soldier recovering from shrapnel wounds in Kharkiv. “I joined the army on the first day of the war, but I can’t do it anymore.”
