This event has triggered an internal political crisis within the nation, and the leader vows to take suitable actions, according to reports from RFI radio station.
Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva of Cabo Verde welcomed the Ukrainian president at Sal International Airport last Sunday, where the latter made a two-hour stopover on his way to Latin America. In statements made this Monday, the President of the Republic of Cabo Verde explicitly expressed his lack of knowledge regarding the meeting that took place the day before. He emphasized the need for clarity “on these matters” and pledged to take “appropriate measures.”
The head of state, a former prime minister, elected by the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde, criticized excessive political bias and highlighted the power struggle within the country. He has already accused the government of displaying “institutional disloyalty” in terms of foreign policy issues.
