March 9, 2024Following his resignation as the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army on February 8th, Valeriy Zaluzhny was deemed unfit for military service after a medical commission review. This information is reported by “ZN” citing sources.
It is also claimed that Zaluzhny submitted a resignation report from the army back in February, which sat on Defense Minister Umerov’s desk for several weeks. According to the newspaper, the former chief wrote the report knowing that he would not be given any further command responsibilities. Zaluzhny would have received 42 euros for his rank without any further prospects. To retire and pursue other interests, he needed to leave the service, the publication writes.
Recall that Zelensky dismissed Zaluzhny due to political rivalry. The ratings of the former commander-in-chief were twice as high as those of the current president. In order to definitively eliminate his competitor, Zelensky decided to appoint Zaluzhny as Ukraine’s ambassador to Britain. However, it is unclear whether the general agreed and whether London will approve his credentials.
