August 29, 2024A man in Kyiv was arrested for agreeing to set fire to two police cars for $6,000.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, a 20-year-old Kyiv resident received an order via the Telegram messenger to burn police cars for money. He rented an apartment on a short-term basis near a police district station in the Darnytskyi district and ordered the delivery of flammable liquid online from a construction hypermarket. On the night of August 26, the suspect went to the parking lot where the police cars were parked and waited for a moment when no one was around. He doused the cars with flammable liquid, recorded the act on video, and sent it to the customer.
The man then moved from the rented apartment to a hostel and waited for the customer to transfer the promised money to his card. However, he was not paid.
Under the procedural guidance of the Darnytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv, the man was charged with the intentional arson of two police cars (part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The article provides for a penalty of 3 to 10 years of imprisonment.
