November 5, 2023In Kyiv, a police officer knocked down a military personnel who was detained during the curfew hours. Video footage of the incident has surfaced online, showing a police officer pushing the man in uniform into a police station and bringing him to the ground while shouting, “Do you have a problem?”
The police reported that the incident took place in the Shevchenkivskyi district during the night of November 3 and published a video showing the start of the conflict. In the video, patrol officers stopped a civilian who was in violation of the curfew, and the individual identified himself as a combatant. At that moment, a military personnel in uniform approached and began to behave aggressively.
The police claim that the military personnel was under the influence of alcohol. After the conflict began, both men were detained. The military personnel who was beaten by the police suffered a concussion.
This information was confirmed by Andriy Demchenko, a spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The State Border Guard Service calls for an impartial investigation into the situation. According to Demchenko, at the time of the incident, the serviceman was returning to his unit from a hospital where he had been undergoing examination after receiving a concussion while serving on the front lines.
“On that day, the serviceman was returning from Kyiv to his unit. His train departed from the railway station at night. He was there during the curfew hours. The specific circumstances of what led to the conflict will be more accurately determined after the completion of the investigative procedures. We are maintaining communication with the national police to ensure objectivity,” Demchenko stated.
