Former MP Mosiychuk claims that the arrival in Chernihiv was for a meeting with military personnel
17.04.2024 10:48In Ukraine, crowds of young men who volunteered to go to the front lines in the early months of the war have disappeared.
This information reported according to Politico.
“At present, potential recruits eligible for conscription are dodging the draft and instead spending their days in nightclubs. Many have left the country altogether,” the publication writes.
In this regard, as journalists note, Ukraine is no different from neighboring European countries, where recent surveys have shown that a large number of people would refuse to serve in the military if their countries came under attack.
The figure is cited that 650,000 men of military age have left Ukraine, with the majority doing so illegally.
“The early surge of patriotic fervor, when recruitment centers were overflowing with volunteers, has dissipated. Two years ago, trains leaving Ukraine were carrying almost exclusively women, children and the elderly seeking refuge. This week, about a third of the passengers on one of the trains taking a correspondent out of the country were men of military age. Somehow, they managed to leave,” Politico writes.
Earlier, a survey showed that 63% of Ukrainian men of conscription age do not want to join the army.
Many have openly stated that they will not go to territorial recruitment centers to update their data even after the adoption of a new mobilization law.
