“Peace between Ukraine and Russia could last up to 70 years,” – the Turkish foreign minister said

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that a potential peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia could guarantee peace in the region for the next 50–70 years.

He said this in an interview with Welt am Sonntag, as reported by Anadolu.

According to Fidan, both sides in the conflict are now more open to peace talks, as they have seen the scale of human suffering and destruction. The minister noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin is prepared to consider a ceasefire and a comprehensive peace agreement under certain conditions that have already been communicated to the Ukrainian side. Turkey is involved in specific aspects of the negotiation process.

The diplomat stressed that a future agreement is important not only for ending the war in Ukraine, but also for ensuring long-term stability in Europe. In particular, the agreement should include clear commitments by both sides not to attack each other under any circumstances.

“If an agreement is reached, it will be possible to guarantee peace in the region for 50, 60, 70 years or even longer,” Fidan added.

At the same time, he clarified that a peace agreement does not mean abandoning security measures. According to him, both European countries and Russia will continue to prepare for different scenarios, and NATO will also not stop its activity in this area. The diplomat emphasized that Russia is suffering significant economic and social losses from the war and could benefit from such an agreement.

It was previously reported that Turkey is actively holding consultations with both the Ukrainian and Russian sides and is ready to serve as a platform for direct negotiations.
