March 11, 2024A security guard of the multi-story building “Sofiivskyi Kvartal” in Sofiivska Borshchahivka, Kyiv, has been sentenced to five years in prison with a probation period of three years for warning residents about visits from military enlistment officers distributing draft notices.
This information emerged in the Unified State Register of Court Decisions of Ukraine.
According to the case, the building guard wrote at least five messages in the residents’ chat, which consists of 818 residents, stating: “targeted distribution of draft notices,” “draft notices targeted,” “we have another territorial recruitment center.”
The prosecution interpreted these messages as obstructing the work of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The decision of the Kyivo-Sviatoshynskyi District Court states that the guard had a “persistent criminal intention to obstruct the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” under unspecified circumstances. Subsequently, he began sending these messages to residents.
As claimed, during the investigation, the guard “reached a deal with the prosecution” and received a five-year prison sentence with a three-year deferment of punishment.
