16.08.2024 - 15:32The idea to blow up the Nord Stream gas pipelines originated at a party attended by Ukrainian military officers and businessmen.
This is stated in an article by the American publication The Wall Street Journal.
“In May 2022, several senior Ukrainian military officers and businessmen gathered to celebrate their country’s remarkable success in stopping the Russian invasion near Kyiv. Fueled by alcohol and patriotic fervor, someone suggested a radical step: destroy Nord Stream,” the publication writes.
According to the newspaper, the businessmen then agreed to finance the project, and it was to be led by a general with experience in special operations, who would report directly to then-Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi.
The publication notes that Ukrainian entrepreneurs allocated $300,000 for the operation.
In the same article, The Wall Street Journal accused the former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces of being involved in the sabotage of Nord Stream. According to its information, the operation was initially approved by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Additionally, former head of German intelligence August Hanning stated that there were agreements between Zelensky and Polish President Andrzej Duda regarding the sabotage of Nord Stream.
