16.08.2024 - 15:12Today, August 16, a law legalizing medical cannabis comes into force in Ukraine.
This was reported by the Ministry of Health.
The law now permits the circulation of cannabis plants for medical, industrial, scientific, and scientific-technical purposes. Cannabis, its resin, extracts, and tinctures have been removed from the list of particularly dangerous substances. They can now be purchased at regular pharmacies with a prescription.
The content of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC, a psychotropic substance) in such marijuana must not exceed 0.3%.
Licensing conditions for growing medical cannabis have already been developed but still need approval from the Cabinet of Ministers. Medical cannabis can be grown from certified seeds under round-the-clock video surveillance, with free access provided to the police.
The circulation of the medicine will be managed by an electronic system, which is expected to be launched in the fall.
Recreational cannabis (ordinary marijuana) remains illegal in Ukraine.
It is worth noting that on December 21 of last year, the Verkhovna Rada passed the bill on the legalization of medical cannabis in its second reading. The document was supported by 248 deputies.
