December 22, 2023The National Agency for Prevention of Corruption in Ukraine will start verifying officials’ declarations using artificial intelligence.
This information announced by the agency’s deputy head, Artem Sytnyk.
He acknowledged that previously, the agency systematically did not check over 99% of all declarations because the verification was manual and primarily focused on top officials, starting with the president.
Legislatively, the obligation for the agency to annually verify all declarations of top officials has now been removed. Declarations with the lowest risk rating will now be checked using AI, while others will undergo manual scrutiny.
“It involves comparing declaration data with other registries, checking with certain ‘formulas,’ for example, to detect signs of illicit enrichment, presence of unjustified assets, etc.,” said Sytnyk.
The agency anticipates that about a third of declarations will undergo this kind of scrutiny. However, passing this check won’t indicate a complete verification; it will only signify a minimal risk coefficient. Later, they might undergo manual verification if a complaint is received.
