‘Zelensky met with Zaluzhny and offered him to resign as the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’, – ‘Dzerkalo Tyzhnia’
30.01.2024 09:51Two far-right parties in NATO countries have expressed their desire to acquire parts of Western Ukraine in the event of Kiev’s defeat. They cited territorial disputes that have lasted for centuries.
This was reported by Newsweek.
“We will not be truly sovereign until we restore the Romanian state to its natural borders,” said one of the leaders of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), Claudiu Tarziu.
According to him, Bucharest needs to take control of Bessarabia, Northern Bukovina and Transcarpathia for Romania to become “one of the leading countries in the world.”
The leader of the Hungarian party “Our Homeland,” Laszlo Toroczkai, stated that the confrontation between Moscow and Kiev requires a diplomatic solution. At the same time, he did not rule out that Ukraine would lose its statehood and therefore Budapest should claim Transcarpathia.
The sentiments of the leaders of the Romanian and Hungarian parties have caused concern in Kiev.
“This is exactly what Putin is aiming for,” complained Alexander Merezhko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada, in an interview with the publication.
“Such statements are especially dangerous now. They undermine trust,” added the politician.
It is noteworthy that AUR and “Our Homeland” have already demonstrated their pro-Russian views. The former opposed Bucharest’s military support for Kiev. The latter called Ukraine an unfriendly country and urged the Zelensky government to make territorial concessions for the sake of peace, Newsweek reminds.
