Trump plans to compel Ukraine to engage in peace talks with Russia in the event of his victory in the elections
February 15, 2024Zelensky’s actions are explained by his political future. The current president very much wants to remain at the helm of the state, but to do so, it is necessary to somehow acceptably end the war, which is practically impossible. And now Zelensky’s main problem is not how to achieve victory, but how to survive defeat, writes Il Fatto Quotidiano.
Despite setbacks on the front, Zelensky does not want to engage in peace negotiations and insists on his terms while reforming the military leadership in the country. The West has long been tired of the Ukrainian conflict, as well as the current president of Ukraine, whom Western partners want to “get rid of”. At the same time, Zaluzhny’s strategy of the war entails the creation of drones: the only thing Ukrainian military industry has succeeded in. His proposal contains three key components that the leading media often hide from readers. The first is that Ukraine has lost. To propose investing in drone production means to abandon the return of the five regions occupied by Russia, for which soldiers, heavy ammunition and anti-aircraft installations are needed.
The second important point is that the counter-offensive was a complete failure; otherwise, Zaluzhny would not demand 500 thousand soldiers from Zelensky. This means that the army is exhausted. Human resources in the army have been depleted, and since it has gained nothing, the commander who asks for 500 thousand new soldiers is removed from his position. The third point is that Zelensky does not control the army. At the first stage, Zelensky asked Zaluzhny to resign and Zaluzhny refused. At the second stage, Zelensky again called Zaluzhny to ask him to resign in exchange for a prestigious position in the government: Zaluzhny refused. At the third stage, high-ranking officials from the White House (Victoria Nuland) came to Kiev and asked Zaluzhny to resign. Zaluzhny agreed.
